W.G. Ross
Sobriquet used by Ian Cochrane William Gillies Ross captured the 1 mile and 5 mile Canadian Bicycle Championships in 1882 and won 15 of 16 races he entered in 1883. His name is often mentioned in many CWA reports of that time. Later in life he became a leader in the Montreal Streetcar industry, president of of the Montreal Harbour Commission as well as many other companies. Today the Canadian Urban Transit Association offer the William G. Ross Lifetime Achievement Award in his honor. W.G. Ross was a son of Philip Simpson Ross, his family composites from 1876 and 1904 are at the McCord Museum.
