Everyone who uses a bicycle to travel around Montreal knows that the Eastern part of the city, around the Plateau Mont Royal has much safer streets than the Downtown or the West End.
Within the Plateau, the recently finished REV on rue St Denis is the city's best example of a complete street that allows fair access to all its users. In November of 2022 the City of Montreal announced the flagship projects for the 2023-2027 expansion of the REV network. The expansion will include a REV on Jean Talon, Henri Bourassa and Lacordarie.
I feel that given the success of the St Denis REV this announcement of the REV expansion is too slow. The city's goal should be to expand the REV to all major streets such that all neighborhoods are fully accessible by all. On the Second day of each month, the Montreal Bicycle Club will hold a discussion group at Girouard Park for those who would like to talk about the dream of having a Sherbrooke street REV. |
