George Trenholme Bishop was the son of George Clarke Bishop and Mathilda Trenholm (in an unusual bit of serendipity, R. Gallant's grandparents were George Bishop and his wife Mathilda, known as 'Tillie'). George Clarke Bishop was the owner of George Bishop Engraving and Printing Company and G. T. was a typographer in the company although he ended up buying the company in 1894 after his father ran up massive debts in land speculation. In the end, the solution was not far away from the MBC and there is an ad in the 1894 CWA booklet, Our City and Our Sports naming G. Trenholme Bishop as the new owner. G. T. had an early end, dying in 1906 in Denver, Colorado.

An interesting bit of notoriety by association for G. T. Bishop is described in a biography of the Group of Seven artist, A. Y. Jackson, in Wayne Larsen's 'A. Y. Jackson: The Life of a Landscape Painter'.
Who knows, if G. T. Bishop had supplied a bicycle to the young A. Y. Jackson, the Montreal Bicycle Club would have had a famous painter amongst its ranks!
