MONTREAL BICYCLE CLUB
Presented at the second Annual Meeting of the reconstituted club 2019
Gentlemen (and Ladies):
Your committee, in placing this before the members, at the Second Annual Meeting of the “Old M.B.C.” the report for the year 2018, can assure you of the second successful year of the reconstituted club has added to our long record and it is our pleasure to look back upon.
The MBC 2018 season began early in March with a few test rides using Map My Tracks. This software allows the display of the actual route to be recorded in the minutes, a practice that continued throughout the year. Later that same month the Annual General Meeting was held and outlined the plans for the upcoming season.

28 March Montreal Bicycle Club 2018 Annual General Meeting
11 April Fixture Ride to Île Sainte-Hélène and Angus Yards
However the highlight of the month undoubtebly was the excursion by four members of the club from Pittsburgh to Washington DC along the 335 mile Great Allegheny Passage and the C&O canal.
25 April - Posing in Washington DC
In May the Club again used a combination of commuter train and ferry boat rides to the regular Montreal area Fixtures, a feature for which our club has become well known. We feel it is good to de-empathsize automobiles as a mode of transportation.
9 May - Fixture Ride to Oka Ferry
30 May - Return from St Jerome
June had the longest single day ride of the year, the Real Tour de Isle around the island of Montreal, during which the extreme geographical points were examined. That month also saw our second multi day excursion a trip from Rivière-à-Pierre to Quebec City. There was also a day trip to the St Constant Train Museum as well as multiple fixtures exploring the bicycle paths surrounding Montreal.
The summer months of July and August began with some very hot Fixtures to the south shore, multiple day trips around Montreal, and the third excursion of the year, a ride around Lac St Jean. Of special note was the Historic Rivière Saint-Pierre when the club was guided over the course of that former river within Montreal.
1 July - Fixture Ride to Chateauguay River, a very hot and humid day
7 July - Fixture ride to Îles-de-Boucherville
8-12 August - Véloroute des Bleuets Excursion around Lac St Jean
8 Aug - Setting out on the first day
8 Aug - Setting out on the first day
9 August - Continuing on to Dolbeau
19 August - Visit to Technoparc, What can be done to save this natural place on our island?
25 August - Kahnawake
26 August - Tour of the Historic Rivière Saint-Pierre
During the Fall months of September and October we continued with the regular Fixture rides in and around Montreal. In addition there was a folding bicycle trip The Return from Cornwall. As well as a display for Parking Day in Westmount , held to promote a bicycle path on Sherbrooke Street. The season ended with a Pot Luck Dinner.
8 November - Pot Luck Dinner

In closing I quote from the 1895 Annual report.
“Personally try to see that your “Old Club” reaps the full benefit of the greatly increased interest now taken in wheeling. Avail yourselves to the full that of the membership privileges offered, and with a true brotherly feeling, try to induce the unattached wheelmen and others with whom you come in contact to share your advantages.
The whole respectfully submitted on behalf of the Committee”
Malcolm McRae
