Exilda Lachapelle
Sobriquet used by Ada Bleasby Born 15 Feb 1859 in Montreal she became a professional walker (Pedestrienne). In 1879 at the Folly Theater in Chicago she walked 3,000 quarter-miles in 3,000 quarter hours. This may have been observed by Louise Armaindo and given her the inspiration to become a Pedestrienne herself, later making the transition to a cyclist.
The Ottawa Journal 30 Jan 1886 reported that she was now keeping a Saloon in San Francisco and has accepted a challenge from Miss Brown of England to walk for $300 or $1000 a side. |
