Sobriquet used by Ian McRae C Frank Maurice Stinson Jenkins (July 6, 1859 – December 5, 1930) was an early cyclists and amateur ice hockey player. He was the captain of the Ottawa Bicycle Club when it was founded August 14, 1882. He also was a founder, and the first captain of the Ottawa Hockey Club (Ottawa HC) of 1883. In 1884 he rode a High Wheel Bicycle from Ottawa to Matane, Quebec. The Ottawa hockey team he started was victorious in the most famous Stanley Cup challenge of all, the 1905 Dawson City Yukon , vs Ottawa. Also notable in the arts, in 1894 Jenkins founded Ottawa's first full-size orchestra, the Ottawa Amateur Orchestral Society. which he conducted until 1900.
The Ottawa Hockey Club, the official name of the Ottawa Senators, was a hockey club that existed from 1882 to 1954. It was part of the NHL from 1917 to 1934. In 1992 the NHL awarded an Ottawa Senators franchise again to that city. The Ottawa Bicycle Club was originally founded in 1882 and disappeared in the early 20th century. The modern Ottawa Bicycle Club was started in 1971. The Canadian Encyclopedia's entry "Music in Ottawa" have many references to Frank Jenkins and his wife music teacher Annie Jenkins. |
