Edmond Jacquelin
Sobriquet used by Pascal Longhi Edmond Jacquelin was a champion french track cyclist. He won the sprint event at the 1900 world track cycling championships in Paris, the year after Major Taylor won the world 1 mile sprint in Montreal's Queens park. Taylor refused to race on Sundays and thus was this not eligible for the championship races held in Europe at that time. A rivalry soon built up between him and Jacquelin over who was the fastest. Special match races between the two became immensely popular.
